Over the years William Pointing has taught himself how to make his budget stretch further because living in the UK’s capital city comes at a cost. After spending years working hard to pay off his overdraft, he still found himself with very little money left over at the end of the month.

To make ends meet, the entrepreneur has tried a few different side hustles and although they haven’t yet made him rich, he has a few funny stories to tell.

One particular story involves renting out his modest one bedroom flat to a film student who thought it would be the perfect setting for his film called The Last Chord featuring a man who plays the saxophone to recover from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Will Pointing said it all came about when he was approached by a student film director called Tony Horthman who spotted his one bedroom flat listing on Airbnb.

He laughs: “It was less glamorous than it sounds – I had to vacate my flat for the entire time and filming overran.”

However, there are also some downsides which Will says may put some people off.

He said: “Filming went over the agreed hours on both days.

“This is a part of the job as scenes can often involve double takes and delays.

“There was an element of stress, as I didn’t want to disturb my neighbours and I also was aware there were several strangers in my place, whilst I wasn’t there.”

As well as giving this idea a go, the money blogger has some useful tips for saving and making money.

He recommends tackling your highest APR debts first before starting a savings pot.

Will concludes: “When you are saving, try and review your expenses once a month and see where the bulk of your spare income is going.

“Out of contract? If so, it could be a good time to use comparison sites or blogs like GreatDealsMadeEasy to compare your household bills, from broadband to energy to even your insurance.”
