India v Australia fourth T20

Australia has hung on to claim a thrilling seven-run victory and clinch the five-match series against India.

But now the team faces a nervous wait after skipper and wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy suffered a calf injury while batting.

Having just spanked one to the boundary in the sixth over, Healy pulled up quickly after taking off for the run.

She was treated by the physio, but came off the ground a short time later. She took no further part in the match, and Tahlia McGrath acted as captain.

If she does not play in the series finale on Wednesday morning (AEDT), it will end her world record streak of 106 consecutive T20I matches dating back to January 2013.

After being sent in, the Aussies were effectively 3-70 at the 10-over mark, before Elysse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner and Grace Harris smacked 118 from the final 10 overs to set India 189 to win.

After blasting a 33-ball 50 in the third game, Perry blasted 72 not out off just 42 – her fifty coming up in just 32 balls.

In reply, India flew out of the blocks to be 23 in the third over when Gardner had Smriti Mandhana caught by Beth Mooney for 16. When Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues fell in successive overs, the Indians were reeling at 3-49.

From there, Harmanpreet Kaur and Davika Vaidya steadied the ship and threatened to put the girls in blue back in contention, before Alana King picked up Kaur for 46 off 30 in the 15th over.

But that only bought teen sensation Richa Ghosh to the wicket. And she carried on as she has throughout the series.

She hit back-to-back boundaries and was dropped on 17. They needed 38 from the last two overs and Ghosh hit back-to-back sixes, reducing the equation to 20 off the last over.

Megan Schutt was hit for four singles and just the two boundaries as the Aussies held on to win by seven runs.

“(Healy’s) going all right, she has a bit of a calf strain, which isn’t ideal, but she’ll be assessed over the next day or so and we’ll see what happens after that,” all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner told cricket.com.au.

“(McGrath) was fantastic in the way that she’s very cool, calm and collected.

“It was a pretty big game for her to stand in and she did a fantastic job.

“I know most people would probably recognise that when they see her play, nothing really fazes her and I guess she had faith in all of our abilities, and we know our games pretty well.”

Australia now hold an unassailable 3-1 lead with a game to play.
