The latest edition of Techarc‘s “India Connected Consumer Report,” analyses the smartphone and connected devices landscape in India. The research firm notes that the adoption of smart devices in India is largely driven by the comfort and convenience they bring, which significantly impacts lifestyle quality. Previously, adoption was mainly driven by entertainment, with consumers purchasing devices such as smart TVs, streaming devices, and smart speakers.
The report indicates that connected consumers in India are now also buying smart devices such as smart lights, smart air conditioners, and smart air purifiers, making this category second only to the “smart personal” category, which includes items such as truly wireless earbuds, smart watches/fitness bands, Chromebooks, and tablet PCs.
5G to be the key driving factor for consumer purchases in 2023
The report also evaluates the effect of 5G on the smart devices ecosystem. While consumers are eager for the high speeds and advanced computational capabilities that 5G can provide for their smart devices, there are also concerns about limited coverage, the need to replace current devices, and the privacy of data.
“The Indian Connected Consumer is well aware of the power that 5G will bring to the smart devices’ ecosystem starting 2023. Connected Consumers are expecting advanced computational capabilities in these devices leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning and others, increasing the role and significance of a processor (chipset) in the smart devices,” said Faisal Kawoosa, Founder & Chief Analyst Techarc, on the shift in the market.
Faisal further adds, “The smart devices ecosystem shall have to power their devices with processors that can help OEMs to design such devices meeting consumer expectations.”
The third edition of the India Connected Consumer Report is based on a survey of 2,500 interviewees living in metro (55%) and non-metro (45%) cities, all of whom were smartphone users and owned at least three additional smart devices.
