Just recently this morning, Instagram users are facing a problem as both the app and website appear to be down and not working. The problem has started at around 8.20am with thousands of reports across the UK and many parts of Europe.
People were unable to see people’s pictures or profiles, instead, users were greeted with empty profiles and a message saying that the app “cannot refresh feed”. On web version of the app, going to any page will bring up a “5xx Server Error”.
According to the outage-tracking website Down Detector, the issues were particularly affecting the users in northern Europe, Australia and the west coast of the US. But that problem is probably because of time zones in California, where Instagram is based, and it is past midnight.
A lot of users have flooded the social media sites, including Twitter, to share their dismay and problems. Fifty-six percent mentioned their rants they were having problems with their newsfeed, while 37 per cent said the problem was with log-in, and 6 per cent had problems with the website. This error earned a lot of speculations as well.
Some of the people thought that after the Facebook hack was revealed over the weekend, Instagram users and accounts might have been caught up in the problem if they had used their Facebook log-in to create their Instagram account.
The spokesperson for Instagram told Mirror Online: “We’re aware that some users are having trouble accessing Instagram. We’re working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible”. We should be thankful as they had their response as quickly as possible. And finally, the website and app just returned at around 9 am in the UK, with one Twitter user saying: ‘Instagram is back, everyone resume your life’. However, the cause of the outage is still unclear.
