Meta is testing a new feature, “IG Candid Challenges,” on Instagram, a feature much similar to the entirety of BeReal. First spotted by Twitter user Alessandro Paluzzi, the IG Candid Challenges mimics BeReal, randomly asking users to click and share a photo in 2 minutes. That is the whole concept of BeReal, a social media app rising in popularity in a few parts of the world.
As per the screenshot shared by Paluzzi, the prompt pops up asking users to “Join IG Candid Challenges.” “Add other’s IG Candid to your story tray. And every day at a different time, get a notification to capture and share a Photo in 2 Minutes,” the screenshot reads,” reads the description.
In a nutshell, Instagram will send you a notification randomly at any time of the day, asking you to capture a photo. Now, you will have two minutes to click a photo from the front and rear camera simultaneously, and there are only 2 minutes to do all this.
Does this sound familiar to you? Well, it might because that is what BeReal is all about. You might have heard about the new social media app BeReal. But, the app has been creating a lot of buzz because of its one feature, which Meta is onto.
So the description for BeReal reads, “Every day at a different time, everyone is notified simultaneously to capture and share a Photo in 2 Minutes.A new and unique way to discover who your friends really are in their daily life.”
The only difference is that Instagram’s “IG Candid Challenges” is not new and unique.
Instagram recently rolled out a new feature dubbed “Dual,” allowing users to take a photo or video from both their phone’s front and rear camera simultaneously. So all Instagram has to do is send users notifications, and it becomes very similar to BeReal.
It is still not known if Meta will bring this feature to Instagram. For now, the company is testing this feature internally, as confirmed by a Meta representative.
Meta has been on a quest to keep its young audience glued to its app. Considering how BeReal is growing in popularity, it is quite probable that this feature could end up on Instagram someday or another.
