ipad users: iPad users will not get Instagram app any time soon, here’s why

A dedicated app of Instagram is not coming to the Apple iPad anytime soon. While the photo and video-sharing app Iapp is quite popular on Android and iOS, it is not yet there on the iPadOS, and as per Instagram head Adam Mosseri, a dedicated Instagram app for the iPad is not viable as there are not enough users on the iPadOS.
Mosseri mentioned this reason in response to a tweet by YouTuber Marques Brownlee who complained about the lack of a dedicated Instagram app for the iPad. In his own words: “Yup, we get this one a lot. It’s still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now we’re very heads down on other things.”
When Brownlee countered with another tweet saying that the presence of a dedicated app might help bring in more users, Mosseri explained the company’s decision in more detail. In a follow up tweet, he laid out more reasons why the company is not willing to go for a dedicated Insta app for the iPad. As per Mosseri:
“1/ each surface adds overhead; we support iOS, Android, www, and IG Lite, and Android is the largest
2/ TikTok and YouTube are behemoths, people share more in messages than they do to Stories or Feed, so we need to adapt
3/ we are leaner than you think”

Ergo, for now, a dedicated Instagram app for the iPad is not looking likely. You’ll have to stick to your phones for the time being.
