iPhone users will soon be able to message themselves on WhatsApp

Almost a week after rolling it out to beta users on Android, WhatsApp has started to release the “message yourself” feature to iOS. The feature will enable iPhone users to ‘send messages to yourself’. You can save your number on your phone, refresh the list and open it as an individual chat to send messages.
According to the WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp for iOS 22.23.74 is marked as a compatible update. The feature is currently available to a few beta testers. When you open WhatsApp, your personal contact may be visible right within the contacts list. Moreover, the chat caption which shows up under the name of the person you are chatting to shows “Message yourself” instead of “Online” or no caption at all.
The messages sent to this particular chat will be visible across your linked devices and they are always end-to-end encrypted. WABetainfo also claims that the ability to open the chat with your own phone number right within your contacts list will be rolled out to more users over the coming days. Last week, the feature was rolled out to beta users on Android.

This is not the first time the “Message yourself” feature has been in the news as it has been under testing for quite a while now. WhatsApp has also restored the entry point to open the chat with users’ own phone numbers.
WhatsApp Companion Mode
Recently, the Meta-owned instant messaging app started rolling out ‘Companion Mode’ for its beta users on Android. The feature enables users to use their WhatsApp account on an additional smartphone.
‘Companion Mode’ allows users to link up to four devices at once with their WhatsApp account and when someone sends a message, it can be accessed on all linked devices. In addition, personal messages and calls are end-to-end encrypted even if a person is using WhatsApp from a linked mobile phone.
