It Is In Us All review – Cosmo Jarvis feels out of place in dour drama | Films | Entertainment
He plays posh Englishman Hamish who travels to Ireland to visit a house bequeathed to him by an aunt he never met. At least, that is the reason he gives to the bewildered father (Claes Bang) he sporadically argues with on video calls.
Really, the buttoned-up businessman wants to find a connection with his dead mother.
On the way, Hamish gets involved in a car crash with two boy racers, one of whom is instantly killed. The accident leads Hamish to experience some sort of breakdown.
He discharges himself from hospital too early and goes on to form a creepy friendship with Evan (Rhys Mannion), the teenage survivor of the accident.
From here, the film reminded me of Enduring Love, the Ian McEwan novel adapted into a darkly amusing 2004 drama starring Daniel Craig and Rhys Ifans.
Campbell-Hughes summons up a suitably oppressive atmosphere but the point of her dour drama remains frustratingly elusive.
It Is In Us All is in cinemas and on digital now.
