Greg Rusedski felt for Draper, but urged his compatriot to focus on the positives in the wake of his retirement. “He was down a set and a break, wins the second set and has the chance for a double break in the third set and then his body just let him down,” he said on Amazon.
“These things happen in sport. He’s improved a lot, he’s had an amazing summer. It’s an unfortunate way to finish, but look at all the positives.
“He’ll be back stronger, he’ll be back better and he’ll definitely be back again in the third round in New York and I’m sure he’s going to go a lot further than that in the future. He is the real deal. He’s a great player and if he can get his health back, the sky is the limit for this young man.”
