James Maddison injury: What Leicester ace ‘said’ to team-mate after World Cup scare | Football | Sport

James Maddison was forced to withdraw from Leicester City’s win at West Ham United on Saturday in the 25th minute with an apparent leg injury. And, amid concerns over his condition for the start of England’s World Cup campaign, what he told his team-mates after full-time has since come to light.

During BT Sport Score, host Jules Breach admitted ‘she was no lip reader’ but claimed Maddison was captured on camera telling his Leicester brethren that he ‘should be okay’ after the injury scare. And fears will have been simmered further by Danny Ward and Harvey Barnes’ post-match comments.

When asked for an update on Maddison’s condition, Ward was confident that the 25-year-old was okay and encouraged him to continue his electric form at the World Cup. He said: ” I think he will be alright. I think he’s okay. Hopefully, touch wood, all is well, and he can show the world what he can do.”

Barnes, who didn’t make Gareth Southgate’s final cut, was slightly more reserved about his fellow attacker, admitting he didn’t know the details and expressing his hope that he would be in good nick to join next week’s Three Lions camp. “I’m not sure at the minute. You probably know as much as I do. Fingers crossed he’s all right,” Barnes responded.

Maddison continued his sensational run of form in the final third by firing Leicester ahead at the London Stadium. Barnes added a second for the visitors in the 78th minute to down West Ham and fire the Foxes up to 12th in the Premier League before the World Cup break.

England supporters were clamouring for Maddison’s World Cup inclusion, with the attacking midfielder registering seven goals and four assists in 13 league appearances this term. And despite his promising comments, fans, Southgate and the player himself will be holding their breath at the prospect of heartbreak in the 11th hour.
