John Wick star Lance Reddick’s reported cause of death ‘wholly inconsistent’ says family | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Lance Reddick tragically died on March 17 at the age of 60, just days before the premiere of his latest film John Wick: Chapter 4.

At the time, his representatives said The Wire star had died from natural causes, but a death certificate published yesterday revealed otherwise.

The certificate claimed Lance died from ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease.

Ischemic heart disease is caused by narrowed heart arteries and decreases blood flow and oxygen to the heart, whereas coronary artery disease sees plaque buildup in the arteries, further narrowing them and affecting the flow of blood and oxygen.

According to the World Health Organisation, 17.9 million people die each year of cardiovascular diseases like these, but Lance’s family is reportedly arguing that he is not one of them.

Attorney James Hornstein spoke to People mere hours after the certificate and cause of death had been released, saying he enjoyed many years of representing Lance and now continues to do so for his widow, Stephanie Reddick.

He declared: “The coroner statement on the death certificate is not a result of an autopsy. No autopsy was performed on Lance.

“To my knowledge, no medical examination of Lance during his lifetime ever indicated such conditions.”

Not only does James claim Lance never received a diagnosis of any cardiovascular abnormalities during his life, he also notes that the actor was “the most physically fit person I’ve ever known”.

Sticking to a healthy lifestyle, diet and exercise routine greatly decreases one’s risk of developing cardiovascular diseases in the first place and can reverse some of their symptoms.

James explained that Lance had an intense workout routine and that gym facilities were always “a contractual requirement for his work away from home”.

He continued: “He ate as if a dietician was monitoring his every meal.”

“The information appearing on the death certificate is wholly inconsistent with his lifestyle.

“On behalf of Stephanie Reddick, the death certificate information is not corroborated and is inconsistent with the facts known to the family.”

Stephanie first issued a statement the day after her husband’s sudden death, sharing on Instagram: “Lance was taken from us far too soon.

“Thank you for all your overwhelming love, support and beautiful stories shared on these platforms over the last day. I see your messages and can’t begin to express how grateful I am to have them.

“And to the thousands of Destiny players who played in special tribute to Lance, thank you. Lance loved you as much as he loved the game. Donations may be made to momcares.org in Baltimore, his hometown.”

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives of Lance Reddick’s estate for comment.
