Kate, Princess of Wales made some small changes to her outfits, particularly to the more formal dresses, by making the sleeves less sheer and more “appropriate”, fashion experts claimed.
The Princess of Wales attended the 2017 BAFTA awards wearing a black printed off-the-shoulder Alexander McQueen dress.
Two years later, the royal donned the same gown again, but this time the dress had cap sleeves in a brand-new look.
Kate also wore a beautiful white and gold Alexander McQueen dress in 2012 that had diaphanous sleeves.
The design was changed to attend the BAFTA awards in 2020, and the sleeves were altered to become opaque.

Similarly, for Christmas lunch with the Queen in 2019, the Princess of Wales wore a tartan Emilia Wickstead dress.
While attending an event at Buckingham Palace years later, Kate was seen donning the festive outfit again but the sleeves were now opaque.
These changes were made as sheer designs and see-through dresses are not deemed “appropriate” for Queens.
Fashion and royal expert Miranda Holder explained that as Kate takes one step closer to her future role as Queen Consort after Queen Elizabeth’s death, “it is likely that we will see her wardrobe become more formal and appropriate for her position”.

Fashion experts have also commented that the Princess of Wales may start wearing hats for public appearances and more formal occasions.
Queen Elizabeth was frequently seen in hats because of an old tradition which banned women from showing their hair.
According to Diana Mather, a scholar of English etiquette, “up until the 1950s ladies were very seldom seen without a hat as it was not considered ‘the thing’ for ladies to show their hair in public”.
“But all that has changed and hats are now reserved for more formal occasions,” she explained.

Miranda opined “the more flirtatious fancier accessories such as hatbands will be fully phased out for more imposing hats”.
The fashion expert commented: “Kate used to be a fan of headbands, but since working closely with her friend and stylist Natasha Archer to develop her own personal brand, they have had no place in her wardrobe.
“Kate’s style personality is more classic and elegant, which suits both her lovely figure and her future role as our Queen.”
Miranda said the more traditional hat is a better option to wear on formal occasions and “she does so with panache and just enough drama to keep fashionistas on their toes”.
Similarly, the Princess of Wales may start wearing gloves for public appearances. Queen Elizabeth used to wear gloves to protect from germs when shaking hands.
British etiquette expert Grant Harrold explained: “Let’s not forget she didn’t always wear gloves when meeting people, therefore it depends on what she was wearing, where she was and what she was doing.”
Clutch bags will continue to be the Princess of Wales’s favourite accessory as they add a touch of glamour to every occasion, but she may start wearing the late Queen’s iconic handbag.
As Kate evolves further “we can expect to catch sight of some more Queen-like top handled bags inspired by the Queen’s trademark Launers,” Miranda said.
