Kevin Feige Reveals He Put Together Script for Namor 18 Years Ago; Michael B. Jordan Open to MCU Return

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will introduce Namor the Sub-Mariner for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character was created in early 1939 and is the first known comic book antihero. The iconic character is also one of the most popular Marvel characters, but we never saw him in the MCU. Now, Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, has revealed that Namor has been in the works for over 18 years.

Speaking to Marvel Entertainment during the red carpet premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Feige said the following about the decision to bring Namor into the MCU:

“Namor – as the Marvel fans know – is of one, if not the original. He and Human Torch, right? Almost the same time. So that, forever, has been on our lists. I remember 18 years ago putting together – I think we even commissioned a script 18 years ago – and the timing was never right and the idea was never right. Ryan Coogler on the first movie, starting pitching a war between kingdoms. If you actually added a cultural specificity to Namor, and that’s certainly what he’s done in this movie, and it’s not Atlantis, it’s Talocan and I can’t wait for people to meet the Talocaneal and Namor.”

Michael B. Jordan is open to MCU return

As Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to release this month, some fans have obviously wondered if we would get to see Michael B. Jordan again in the MCU. The actor played the villainous N’Jadaka aka Erik Stevens aka the Killmonger in 2018’s Black Panther. The actor was praised for his performance and his character was also well-received. Because of this, some wonder if Killmonger returning in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a possibility. Jordan says he is very much open to the opportunity.

Speaking to ExtraTV, the actor said:

“I don’t know if it’s a possibility. I mean, at one point or another, being able to be in the Marvel Universe was like a dream come true and if there was an opportunity for me to come back, of course I would. Yeah, I’m not one of those guys like ‘Oh no, I would never!’ Like, no. Working with Ryan [Coogler], you know, what we did on that first project and what Marvel does as a whole is something that, as a fan, as a nerd, and a geek that I am, I just love to see those movies and those characters come to life.”
