Kirstie Allsopp, 50, has furiously hit back at criticism she faced following her comments surrounding young people not being able to afford property. Kirstie sparked fury when she revealed she had purchased her first home at the age of 21 and admitted she felt “enraged” when people said they could not afford it.

In her comments to the Sunday Times, Kirstie recommended moving to “cheaper areas” up north and giving up Netflix and gym memberships to save some extra cash.

After a torrent of backlash on social media, Kirstie has told critics how they can “put an end to her”.

In view of her 425,000 followers, the Location, Location, Location presenter fumed: “If you don’t like me do tell Channel 4, though the best way to put an end to me is not to watch the shows.

“We’re filming the Christmas Show on Friday, maybe by the time it comes out in December it will have zero viewers.

“You’ve got nine months to achieve that. Ready, steady go.”

The tweet received a mixed reaction, but many were still outraged.

A user named Mark retorted: “It’s not about disliking anyone or watching shows. It’s about preaching nonsense that undermines the struggles facing ordinary people who haven’t had your good fortune in life. Try growing up on a council estate in a deprived area, raised in a poorly funded education system.”

Lutz & Defoe fumed: “You’d thought all of your family money would have allowed you to realise how lucky you are, made you a better person and blessed you with an ounce of empathy.”

And Steve said: “I’ll continue to watch your show but understand what you said was shockingly poor. Yes, the message ‘work hard and prioritise’ is not bad advice, but dismissing the carnage that is the current housing crisis is lamentable and privilege really does count.”

However, several came in support of the presenter and shared that they too were able to buy their own home independently.

Deb defended Kirstie saying: “I grew up on a council estate with just a mum and brother. Left school with no qualifications, yet I have worked hard, bought my first home at 21 with no help from anyone.

“I now own a house worth two million plus. I love Kirstie and you won’t find a chip on my shoulders like some on here!”

Roisin added: “Absolutely love watching you. My family and I were only saying this last week. You’re a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately a minority like to make a lot of noise and don’t like common sense apparently either.”

And Margaret said: “Really sorry to read about the horrible prejudice and bullying you’re having to endure. It beats me how people can think it’s ok to use someone’s birth or upbringing as a basis for public abuse. You are excellent at your job and your work gives pleasure to millions.” (sic)

Kirstie, who is the daughter of Charles Allsopp, 6th Baron Hindlip, says she bought her first home in her early 20s with the help of her family.

Speaking to the aforementioned publication, she said: “When I bought my first property, going abroad, the easyJet, coffee, gym, Netflix lifestyle didn’t exist.

“I used to walk to work with a sandwich. And on payday I’d go for a pizza, and to a movie, and buy a lipstick. Interest rates were 15 percent, I was earning £11,500 a year.”

She added that she didn’t “want to belittle those people who can’t do it”, but maintained “there are loads of people who can do It and don’t. It is hard.”

She continued: “We’ve fallen into the trap of saying it’s impossible for everybody. I was brought up to believe owning your home is the be-all and end-all, and in a way, I still believe that.

“It’s about where you can buy, not if you can buy. There is an issue around the desire to make those sacrifices.”
