The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just five days into its over two-month schedule and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are getting ready to play the third match of their campaign against the Punjab Kings.

Having started with a stunning victory against defending champions Chennai Super Kings on the opening day, KKR slumped to a three-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the D.Y Patil Stadium on Wednesday.
Punjab Kings had started their campaign with a five-wickets win against RCB in their first match.

PBKS skipper Agarwal will be looking forward to a better performance from his bowlers who had conceded 200-plus score in their opening match.

While their batters carried PBKS to victory in a high-scoring encounter, KKR were all out for 128 in 18.5 overs against RCB and skipper Shreyas Iyer will be hoping their batting to click in their next match.

It may be early days in the two-month long IPL but the toss is already playing a significant role in the game’s outcome with dew coming into picture in the second half of the game.

Punjab bowlers need to do more

Punjab bowlers came up against a marauding Faf Du Plessis in the first game and the likes of Sandeep Sharma, Arshdeep Singh and Odean Smith would need to up their game against KKR. The eight overs from spin duo of Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar could also make a difference in the game.

Punjab depends a lot on top order

For Punjab, a lot would rest on how their top three – skipper Mayank Agarwal, flamboyant Shikhar Dhawan and Sri Lankan Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who played a match-winning cameo against RCB, perform. While head coach Anil Kumble would expect more contributions from the middle order, the likes of Odean Smith and Shahrukh Khan proved their mettle when they steered the side home against RCB and would be keen to be among the runs again.

Shreyas Iyer hoping for more from batters

KKR were all out for 128 in 18.5 overs against RCB and skipper Shreyas Iyer will be hoping their batting to click in their next match. He himself will be hoping to fire in Friday’s match and will also be expecting that the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Nitesh Rana and Sunil Narine too come good early in the tournament.
