Laying of ‘Foundation Stone’ better option than hologram: Chandra Kumar Bose on Netaji statue

Netaji kin Chandra Kumar Bose on Friday suggested that laying of a ‘Foundation Stone’ with a mention that “Netaji’s Statue would be unveiled here on a specific date” could have been a better option instead of a hologram statue. He also claimed that ‘unnecessary controversy’ was created over the vanishing Hologram statue.

“Why couldn’t laying of a Foundation Stone be done at India Gate-stating that Netaji’s Statue would be unveiled here on a specific date? Unnecessary controversy created over the vanishing Hologram statue! Why couldn’t the High-Level Central Committee meet to take suggestions?” Bose tweeted.

Chandra Bose is a member of the Central Committee-Netaji 125th Birth Anniversary Celebration which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The hologram statue sparked political controversy with Trinamool leaders protesting its disappearance. On Thursday evening, after the Parliament session, Trinamool MPs Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Saugata Roy, Nadimul Haque, Jawhar Sircar, Shanta Chetri and Mausam Noor protested against the disappearance of Netaji’s hologram at India Gate.

Trinamool’s Saugata Roy took a swipe at the central government in Parliament over the missing hologram. “Gone with the wind,” he quipped.

The hologram of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was switched off today because of high wind velocity and rain, the central government clarified

Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien also tweeted: “AITC MPs protesting outside the spot where BJP government tried and failed. Don’t blackout Netaji. Let there be light. Why has Netaji been kept in the dark? (sic).”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had unveiled the hologram statue of Netaji on January 23 at India Gate.

The hologram statue, which shows Netaji saluting, will be replaced by a granite statue at the same site.

The 28 feet-by-6 feet hologram statue is powered by a 30,000 lumens 4K projector. The light is thrown on a high-grain, 90 per cent transparent holographic screen that is not visible to visitors.
