Aurelion Sol, the Star Forging Dragon was once believed to be the character that will become the top pick in League of Legends, but that did not end up being the case. When the character was announced, the hype for him was unreal. But as soon as the players got to playing with the character, they quickly realised that the character was disappointing at the least, with many dropping him after a few games.
League of Legends developers have finally realised the hardship this character is going through and have made plans to revamp him and bring the Star Forging Dragon back to glory. They announced that the revamp for Aurelion Sol is already in motion in their Champion Roadmap report.
In the roadmap, the developers spoke about the character being one of the top visually appealing ones in the game, but being at the very bottom in terms of gameplay. They mentioned that the team tried to do some tweaks to the character’s gameplay, but were quick to realise that they will need to build him up from scratch to provide the character the justice he needs.
Aurelion Sol will be the first character in their roster that will receive a Comprehensive Gameplay Update or CGU. This type of update will work on characters that have high art and narrative stats, but lack in gameplay. Their goal is to provide Aurelion Sol with a champion’s kit from scratch with the same model, theme, and narrative. They also aim to provide “changes similar to VGUs like Urgot’s or Sion’s, while making sure that it’s still thematically cohesive with who he already is”.
The developers will also be working to do more justice to his Dragon Persona and try to make his star forging gameplay more “spectacular to see and more intuitive to play”. They do not have an official date for when this rework will finish but they have mentioned that their goal to provide this revamp to the players is by the end of 2022.
