Diaz’s influence was clear to see when he came on in the second half and changed the game completely for Klopp’s side. The Liverpool boss is now relying on the team building up some form quickly ahead of what is set to be a hectic schedule.

Lacking killing edge

Apart from the Bournemouth demolition, Liverpool have seemingly always been on edge in games they would otherwise be expected to dominate. Brighton have been brilliant this season and were the better side in the opening 45 minutes.

But Liverpool came out on top in the second half and once Roberto Firmino equalised, they would have previously gone for the jugular to take the lead quickly. They huffed and they puffed, but were guilty of misplacing too many passes in the final third with Mohamed Salah, Firmino and Diaz all left frustrated at times.
