‘Katya’ also claimed she was embarrassed about her old clothes and battered suitcase, pulling on Mike’s heartstrings.
Mike added: “Well, I wanted her to come, it cost me another £4,000.”
Soon, ‘Katya’ had another excuse – there had been a storm, and her roof needed repairs – she was running out of money, and needed to get a holiday job to pay for it.
Mike was dismayed, and offered to pay £6,000 but his internet banking app didn’t work and he rushed to his local branch.
After a series of questions from bank staff, suspicions were raised, and the manager stepped in. Thankfully, staff were able to intervene before Mike sent any further funds to the woman he thought he’d built a relationship with.
