Love and Thunder Merch May Reveal Key Jane Foster Plot Point

The new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder finally gave longtime MCU fans the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster as the new Mjolnir-wielding Thor. However, there may be hidden story details about Jane Foster in the accompanying merchandise.

Of course, possible spoilers ahead so tread lightly!

Marvel is selling an official replica of Foster’s helmet worn in Love and Thunder at eaglemoss. The original description confirms that Jane Foster becomes diagnosed with cancer and is able to somehow wield a reforged Mjolnir, turning her into the Mighty Thor.

Here is the original description as reported by SlashFilm:

“Suffering from cancer, astrophysicist and Thor’s ex-girlfriend, Jane Foster, visited New Asgard and her life was changed forever. Mysteriously, the broken pieces of Mjolnir, the hammer of the thunder god, transformed her into the Mighty Thor and gifted her the superpowers of Thor, to battle threats internal and external. Wielding Mjolnir herself, she had become a godly protector and a new hero was born!”

Since then, the official description has changed to this:

“While visiting the broken pieces of Mjolnir in New Asgard, Jane Foster’s life is forever changed when she mysteriously transforms into the Mighty Thor. Now armed with Mjolnir and the power of Thor herself, Jane embraces her new life as a godly protector.”

It looks like it was changed to avoid spoiling her status as a cancer patient. However, Marvel comic book readers are already familiar with Jane’s backstory. In the comics, Jane Foster is diagnosed with breast cancer before being blessed with the powers of a Thunder god.

It looks like Love and Thunder director, Taika Waititi, is forging a somewhat similar path for the new Goddess of Thunder. Unfortunately, that’s all we know for now, but it will be interesting to see how the original Thor reacts to Jane’s newfound powers.

Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in June and could play a big part in both the story of Moon Knight and Spider-Man and fill in gaps left by Avengers: Endgame.
