Man City’s Pep Guardiola boots bottle at Leeds bench before rushing over to apologise | Football | Sport

Pep Guardiola let his frustration get the better of him in the latter stages of Manchester City’s clash with Leeds on Wednesday night when he accidentally kicked a bottle of water into the Leeds bench before rushing over to apologise immediately. City were back in Premier League action for the first time since the surprise 2-1 defeat to Brentford prior to the World Cup.

But any fears of losing back-to-back league games soon vanished with City controlling the game from the offset. Only for some poor finishing from Jack Grealish did City not find themselves ahead sooner, but they finally broke the deadlock through Rodri before the break.

Erling Haaland then scored twice either side of the hour mark to put City 3-0 up. Leeds did threaten a comeback late on when Pascal Strujik scored with a header from a corner and they piled on the pressure in the latter stages.

Minutes later and Joe Gelhardt came agonisingly close to making it 3-2 with Leeds then having a great chance with a free-kick from 20 yards out soon after. Guardiola was far from relaxed on the sidelines as he paced in an out of his dugout.

Sam Greenwood ultimately spurned the free-kick, but Guardiola was still frustrated on the sidelines. Amazon Prime’s bench cam caught Guardiola throwing his water bottle to the ground before walking back to the dugout and violently kicking another.

He clearly didn’t think he’d connect with it as well as he did though as he saw that the water bottle had gone towards the Leeds dugout. Realising his error, Guardiola immediately put his hands to his head and ran over to apologise.
