Manchester United have responded to allegations made against star striker Mason Greenwood, after a woman uploaded pictures to social media alledging that the professional footballer had caused her harm. As part of the allegations Greenwood, 20, was included in a series of posts by a young woman which showed graphic detail of injuries said to have been inflicted by the United academy graduate.

Addressing the situation, Manchester United issued a brief statement.

A spokesperson for the Red Devils said they “did not condone violence of any kind” but would not make further comment “until the facts have been established”.

In a statement, the club added: “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.

“We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”

Further reports in the Manchester Evening News have since indicated that the allegations are now being looked into by Greater Manchester Police.

The force says it is “aware of images and videos circulating on social media” relating to the 20-year-old striker.

Enquiries have been launched to establish the full circumstances.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: “Greater Manchester Police is aware of images and videos circulating on social media.”

Greenwood made his debut for United in 2019 and has since clocked up 129 appearances for the club, scoring 35 goals.

Ralf Rangnick’s side return to action on Friday evening when they face Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fourth round.
