Man Utd handed double boost as ‘next Wayne Rooney’ set to miss Old Trafford audition | Football | Sport
United have been linked with Ferguson over the past few months, with supporters likening him to club legend Wayne Rooney in how he has burst onto the scene and had an instant impact at the very highest level.
The forward would certainly be honoured by the comparisons too given that he told MOTDx that the Red Devils hero was who he looked up to when asked about his inspirations, saying: “I’d say Wayne Rooney (was his footballing hero) because he had the show, Wayne Rooney’s Street Striker. I used to watch him and I used to support United as a kid. He was just unbelievable.”
United are in the market for forward reinforcements over the summer and it would be no surprise for Ten Hag to greenlight a push for Ferguson. However, given that they also want a marquee No 9 and Brighton’s reputation for charging high prices, the club could prioritise other acquisitions.
