The Manly Sea Eagles are set to be investigated over their training methods with a coronial investigation launched into the death of young player Keith Titmuss in 2020.

Titmuss, who was just 20 years old, collapsed during a pre-season training session and later died at Royal North Shore Hospital, and his family is still searching for answers.

According to Sydney Morning Herald reports, a number of Titmuss’ teammates and friends have been asked to cooperate with the investigation, which could lead to a formal public inquest next year.

Current Sea Eagles Josh Schuster and Jason Saab are a part of the investigation along with Wests Tigers prop Stefano Utoikamanu and Canterbury’s Matt Doorey.

“This matter is still in the investigative stage. No hearing date has been set yet, and no subpoenas have been issued yet,” the NSW Coroners Court told the Sydney Morning Herald.

The probe into Titmuss’ death is also likely to examine the events that took place between Titmuss suffering a seizure during training and his eventual death.

Detectives have also spoken to the Sea Eagles’ medical and coaching staff as a part of the investigation.

“The Sea Eagles are assisting the coroner’s office with inquiries into the death of Keith Titmuss on 23 November, 2020,” Manly CEO Tony Mestrov said.

“The Sea Eagles understand that the coroner may hold an inquest into the matter but no dates have been set for this.”
