Mason Greenwood: Man Utd ‘had concerns’ over attitude as police question forward | Football | Sport

Manchester United have reportedly had ‘concerns’ over Mason Greenwood’s attitude for some time. The 20-year-old forward was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of rape and assault after posts appeared on social media in the morning showing a woman with a number of injuries.

The woman in question also appeared to suggest she had been the victim of an act of sexual assault. The social media post has since been deleted.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that a man in his 20s has been arrested, and Greenwood will continue to face questioning on Monday.

According to the Daily Mail, club officials at United have had numerous issues with Greenwood, and have questioned his attitude on more than one occasion.

The report claims that he has regularly fallen foul of timekeeping issues, and there have been rumours that he hosted a number of parties during lockdown, with neighbours complaining about the noise.

His relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo has also come under scrutiny, with the two seemingly struggling to form a connection on the pitch.

Greenwood is sponsored by Nike, and the Mail have also claimed that he threatened to move to a clothing rival unless he was paid the same amount as other top players.

The Bradford-born striker also got into trouble on international duty with England in 2020.

He and Phil Foden were fined £1,360 when they broke Covid rules in Iceland after inviting two girls to the England team hotel.

Both were later sent home, and Greenwood went on to apologise for his ‘huge mistake’.

He has not been involved in a Gareth Southgate England squad since.

United released a brief statement on Sunday confirming that Greenwood would not be involved in games or training for the foreseeable future.

It read: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”

Nike, meanwhile, added: “We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

United have been contacted by Express Sport for comment but have not yet responded.
