Max Verstappen scolds Red Bull mechanics in angry radio messages after major US GP error | F1 | Sport
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen hit out at his team after an error during his pit stop at the US Grand Prix saw him move behind Lewis Hamilton. The Dutchman was leading in Texas but the Mercedes man overtook him as he was made to wait stationary for a lengthy period by his mechanics.
After coming out of the pit stop, Verstappen had a blunt message for his team. “Beautiful, ******* beautiful,” Verstappen exclaimed on his team radio. He then took aim once again after responding to a message. “Long way to go, Max,” he was told before replying: “Yeah, you don’t have to tell me that.”
The mistake allowed Hamilton to overtake and move into first place, as he moved seven seconds clear of the two-time world champion. The issue plaguing the Red Bull mechanics was the front left wheel gun, as he was also overtaken by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc but managed to move back into second place and then into first.
Verstappen opted for medium tyres, while Hamilton was on his second set of hards, though the 25-year-old’s tyres will have suffered having to work hard to overtake Leclerc with less than 15 laps remaining.
