Max Verstappen has been told there are two issues ahead of him if the Dutchman wants to beat Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher’s world titles record. The Red Bull man claimed his first victory since being crowned champion for a second time, in a thrilling race at the US Grand Prix.

The Mercedes man came close to sealing his first win of the season, as he took up a strong position when he overtook the Dutch driver when a Red Bull error meant that a lengthy pit stop kept Verstappen stationary and he had a battle to get back in front. However, he was able to move back up the grid and get in front to take victory in an entertaining race.

Before the race, pundit Danica Patrick was discussing whether Verstappen had a chance of reaching seven world titles alongside Hamilton and Schumacher, or even claiming eight championships and eclipsing both of them. She admitted that he has a chance, but warned that Verstappen needed to stay hungry enough and remain at a team that is able to compete for championships.

“Well, obviously he is on a roll and I don’t see that slowing down in any way,” Patrick told Sky Sports F1. “I think that he is going to be one for the record books. I think he is going to win many, many Championships.

“If you put them all in an equal car, Lewis is right in there as well, George [Russell] has shown that he can stick with Lewis, the two Ferrari boys are absolutely tremendous as well.

“I think [Charles] Leclerc has a turn of speed that is quite outstanding on that grid. There are nuances in there, but I would say right now he is very complete.”

Verstappen showed all his talent in Texas to claim his 13th race win of the season, as he equalled Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel’s record of wins in a campaign by coming back from a slow pit stop to move ahead of Leclerc and then eventually Hamilton to seal an emphatic victory.
