McFly’s Tom Fletcher shares update from A&E after grim health scare leads to hospital dash | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Tom Fletcher, 37, has revealed he required urgent medical attention on Easter Sunday after he uploaded a selfie of his visibly red eye to social media.

The McFly star shared additional photos in the emergency department waiting room with the caption: “I think I’m next.”

He made the most of the situation by updating fans on his Instagram story with ‘Happy Easter’ spelt out using letters from the A&E Triage sign.

Following his admission, Tom later added: “Home. Another 6 weeks of steroid eye drops here we go.” (sic)

The following day, he told his two million Instagram followers: “I’ve literally been asleep all day. Just woken up.”

Tom suffered a similar scare when he was diagnosed with uveitis last December.

Despite undergoing six weeks of steroid treatment, wearing sunglasses and sitting in dark rooms, the condition can be long-term and return regularly.

The National Institute of Health describes uveitis as inflammation inside the eye, usually caused by the immune system fighting an infection.

The condition can cause problems such as pain, redness, and vision loss in one or both eyes.

Whilst anyone can be diagnosed with uveitis, it’s most common in people between 20 and 60, and those who smoke cigarettes.

Steroids in the form of eye drops are the most common treatment.

Before visiting the hospital, Tom and his wife, Giovanna Fletcher, shared Instagram posts of them jumping into their pond.

The funny video, complete with the iconic Chariots of Fire by Vangelis soundtrack, showed the couple posing and laughing in their underwear.

The children could be heard shouting: “Jump in, jump in, jump in, jump in” and “It’ll be better for the viewers.”

Tom also captioned the video: “No tadpoles were harmed in the making of this video.

“The kids have said it’s @mrsgifletcher’s turn when she gets home tomorrow.”

Blogger and mother of three Giovanna quickly followed suit on her account with the caption: “Within 5 minutes of being home the boys talked me into jumping in the pond in my undies.

“Yes, despite what it looks like, I do actually have a bra on! GOOD TO BE HOME!!! Xx.” (sic)

On bank holiday Monday, Tom shared further updates about his eye in a reel showing his artistic talents.

Tom posted a video of a pencil drawing of Willy Wonka from The Chocolate Factory with the caption: “Thought I’d sketch something chocolatey for Easter.

“I haven’t drawn in ages and ended up having a uveitis flare up so was drawing with one eye.” (sic)
