Meghan Markle wore a set of sparkling earrings from Cartier to her wedding reception. The Duchess of Sussex opted for a pair of earrings to celebrate her marriage at a lavish bash, matching a bracelet she wore during her wedding ceremony. Both items came to almost a quarter of million pounds between them.
Pairing the sparkling gems from the French fashion house with a dress designed by British rock star progeny Stella McCartney, Meghan, and Harry sped off to the exclusive gathering after their ceremony in a sports car.
But, since wearing the hugely expensive gems for her reception, the Duchess of Sussex appears not to have worn them again.
Meghan opted for the large Reflection de Cartier earrings to pair with her halterneck dress. The pieces feature 19 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 0.81 carats, and with 10 baguette-cut diamonds totalling 1.08 carats set in 18K white gold.
The earrings can still be bought from Cartier for a massive £71,500, almost double the median UK salary.
But, these earrings pale in comparison compared to the enormous cost of the matching bracelet. The Reflection de Cartier bracelet costs an eye-watering £163,000.
It is set with 92 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 3.96 carats, and another 46 baguette-cut diamonds totalling 4.96 carats – all set in 18K gold.
That is almost five times the median UK salary. In total Meghan’s reception jewellery alone was over seven times the median UK annual salary.
This does not even take into account the £132,000 custom dress worn by the Duchess to the evening party.
According to the style blog Meghan Mirror, which breaks down every outfit the Duchess wears publically, she has not worn the jewellery since.
Meghan has also not worn her £15,000 wedding gift from Charles for over a year. The King bought Meghan a diamond bracelet from Bentley & Skinner, which she wore on the eve of her wedding to Harry. However, she hasn’t been seen in the piece since last April.
It’s not the first time Meghan has worn a very pricey garment just once. She spent £99,000 on a Dior outfit in Morocco and has never worn it since. Meghan and Harry attended the reception hosted by the British Ambassador to Morocco in February 2019.
