Microsoft may borrow this Android feature for Windows 12

When Microsoft launched Windows 11, it brought some major changes in terms of features and the entire design language. The operating system introduced the new rounded corner design with Fluent UI and features like Android app support, and better integration with apps and services. Now, a new report claims that a future Windows version, likely to be called Windows 12, will bring some tweaks into the update system of the operating system and may take a page from Android.
According to Windows Central, Microsoft is reportedly working on a new modular version of Windows codenamed CorePC and it will be customisable and expected to bring several changes compared to previous versions of the Windows operating system.
Windows 12 may offer seamless updates
Among all the changes, the biggest change is expected to be in terms of how Windows handles the updates. The next version of Windows, according to the report, will have multiple partitions instead of just one that includes system files, user files and program files.
Android and ChromeOS operating systems follow the same architecture, at least with their latest versions. This allows for seamless updates within these operating systems along with the ability for new updates to be installed on an inactive partition in the background, while the active partition keeps functioning as usual.
Once the entire process is complete, it prompts users to restart the device to complete the update process.
All-in-all, this keeps the device functional even when the updates are being downloaded and installed in the background. With Windows, however, users had to keep waiting through the entire update process and watch the installation screen. The new approach is expected to bring similar benefits to Windows as well.
CorePC to bring more benefits
Windows Central has further mentioned that CorePC may allow for better support for apps and services based on the form factor of the device. In addition, it may also allow Windows with different features and app support based on the device.
