miui: Xiaomi’s MIUI may soon allow users to pre-download game content in the background

All smartphones from Xiaomi and its sub-brand Redmi run on the MIUI operating system. The OS developed by the Chinese smartphone maker offers plenty of customisation options and tools that allow users to take full control of the software. This makes MIUI one of the most feature-packed Android skins available on the market. According to an XDA Developers report, MIUI Android skin might soon keep its user’s favourite games up-to-date in the background.
How was this feature uncovered?
The report claims that evidence of a new MIUI feature has been uncovered within the latest version of the Mi Security app. This feature is expected to automatically download new game updates in the background as soon as they are available.
MIUI pre-download game content feature availability
The report suggests that the background download feature will work only with some selected games. The feature might also work only with games downloaded from Xiaomi’s app store, GetApps. Moreover, the report didn’t confirm whether the background game updates feature will be restricted only to the Chinese version of MIUI or will be available globally. There is no information about when Xiaomi plans to roll out this feature to its users.
How will this feature work?
This new MIUI feature can automatically download new game content when enabled. The feature will work when the phone is connected to Wi-Fi and even when the screen is off. The report has not confirmed exactly what “pre-download” refers to in the strings found in the Mi Security app. However, the report has made a basic interpretation of it and suggests that the feature will download new game updates whenever they’re released.
Importance of this feature
Xiaomi has not confirmed any details about this feature and it is still unclear what it exactly does. If it simply downloads new game updates when they’re released, it won’t be that significant as Play Store has offered app auto-updates for a long time. However, this feature can be important if it can download new game content in advance — even before the developer releases the update on Google Play Store. With this feature enabled, users won’t have to wait to download the new update and can start playing the latest version the moment it’s live.
