Nationwide to offer free AA breakdown cover as FlexPlus changes announced | Personal Finance | Finance
From March 1, 2022, holders of the account will benefit from breakdown services including Accident Assist cover. Accident Assist cover is a complimentary 24/7 accident claims service that UK and EU customers can make full use of.
This latest partnership between Nationwide and the UK’s largest breakdown provider means cover will be provided to any vehicle the member is travelling in, as well as any named person driving the account holder’s vehicle.
This cover builds on the comprehensive benefits offered as part of the FlexPlus account with no increase to the monthly fee of £13.
FlexPlus account holders will also have access to the AA’s app, where they can instantly report a breakdown and track how quickly help will arrive.
If members are involved in an accident that wasn’t their fault, they will be able to access vehicle recovery and arrange a replacement vehicle.

The AA will manage this on their behalf, but vehicles must be serviced and maintained in line with manufacturer guidelines. AA will ask to see evidence of servicing, maintenance, and repair if they believe the service is being used excessively.
As well as offering UK and European breakdown cover, the FlexPlus current account also provides:
• Worldwide family travel insurance
• Worldwide family mobile phone insurance
• Commission free usage abroad when withdrawing cash or making payments
People can open a FlexPlus account very easily online.
If someone decides to switch their current account to a FlexPlus account from another provider, they could be eligible for £100, or £125 if they are already a Nationwide member.
DON’T MISS
People can also manage their cover on the AA app.
They can report any breakdown and track their patrol right to their side of their car using the free AA app.
Before people apply, they should consider if they already have breakdown cover as they could end up paying twice for the same cover. So it’s important to consider which policy provides the best cover for them.
The cost of any claims, if they are covered by more than one policy, may be shared proportionally between the insurance companies.
Gavin Franks, director of business services at the AA, said: “We are delighted to partner with Nationwide and to serve their FlexPlus members.
“Our five-star award winning patrols will be ready to help those broken down across the UK and Europe. By providing members access to our app, we can ensure that drivers can see help is on the way and keep them on the road.
“Our accident assistance will provide additional support to those that need our help in times of trouble and means that we can provide end-to-end services for their members.”
