navjot singh sidhu: One year imprisonment for Navjot Singh Sidhu in road rage case, rules SC

The Supreme Court has enhanced the sentence of former Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu to one year in the 1987 road rage accident.

The order comes after the top court allowed a review petition by the family of the victim Gurnam Singh.

The apex court had in 2018 held Sidhu guilty of the offence of “voluntarily causing hurt” to a 65-year-old man but didn’t sentence him to jail and instead imposed a fine of Rs 1,000.

“We have allowed review application on the issue of sentence. In addition to fine imposed, we impose a sentence of imprisonment of one year to be undergone by respondent 1 (Sidhu),” Sanjay Kishan Kaul said while reading out the operative part, LiveLaw reported.
