In an interview with
ETMarkets,
Kumaar Bagrodia, Founder of NeuroLeap, India’s leading applied neuroscience company leveraging brain- computer interface technology for better mental health and brain enhancement, said: “An optimised subconscious brain means one will be more effortlessly self-aware in the moment of decision making.” Edited excerpts:

If we dig deeper then how do investors make decisions for investments? What have you analysed in your studies?

Well, the efficient markets hypothesis and that human beings are perfectly rational don’t always play out as is evident in investor behaviour. The human brain processes millions of data points per second (external sight, sound, internal processes).

The conscious mind is unequipped to manage this, so it relies on the subconscious brain, which is immensely faster, and more powerful and constitutes 95 – 99% of your mental activity, including decision-making.

The subconscious brain uses patterns of data transfer (electrical energy) as shortcuts for repeated use throughout our lives, seen as our behaviour, mindset, attitude and cognitive biases.

It is proven that the underlying subconscious patterns in the brain have already directed and shaped the decision, well before the investor consciously realises it.

We might know of these behaviour patterns post facto but are usually unaware of them in the moment they happen: Greed, fear of missing out, being irrationally optimistic, indecision, loss aversion, gaming, and addictive behaviour.

We assume these are part of our personality or nature or who we are. But they can all be improved to a very large extent, at any age.

How are you helping people in managing their behaviour patterns to help them increase their productivity?
We have a neuroscientific approach to understanding and enhancing your subconscious brain by leveraging world class brain-computer interface technology.

Starting with the NeuroLeap Brain Function Assessment, a unique & powerful approach to understanding oneself: Clients sit relaxed in a chair & sensors are placed all over the head for a 30-minute reading of brainwaves without any stimulation, meditation or engaging in any activities.

No personal or confidential questions are asked. A detailed 25-page report is presented in 24 hours of consultation to help them understand their subconscious behaviour patterns & cognitive functions like anxiety, attention, mood, addiction, memory, executive functions & several more.

Of course, we can’t read memories, secrets or passwords. Then, the NeuroLeap Brain Enhancement Sessions for each client are customised to their specific needs and are tweaked on an ongoing basis.

The entire brain (not just a few parts) is mapped in each session. Sessions are 30-40 minutes each and are based on proven neuroscience principles of neuroplasticity, and operant conditioning to enhance the subconscious brain function from within by better self-regulation of the patterns.

It’s non-invasive, no medications, no side-effects, and lasting results.

How can an optimised subconscious brain lead to better investment decision-making?

We don’t realise but our investment decisions: Buy/sell/hold / inaction are largely based on our subconscious brain patterns: Emotions like anxiety, fear, greed, FOMO…or ‘gut feeling’.

Logically then, an optimised subconscious brain means one will be more effortlessly self-aware in the moment of decision-making; have enhanced patterns with lower & fewer cognitive biases & issues and will have better control of their emotions, and better self-regulation of thoughts – meaning sharper decision-making.

How does this help in managing stress & anxiety for investors or business owners in general?
Anxiety by itself is your friend. It helps you stay alive and not make stupid decisions. It is a problem when the anxiety network in the brain, which includes electrical data transfer between the amygdala and the prefrontal cortex, is dysregulated, leading to issues like always being in a state of generalised anxiety without a trigger, or getting triggered easily with trivial matters, or having an exaggerated response to a situation or unknowingly operating & making decisions from a place of fear, constant worry, or inaction, indecisiveness & procrastination.

Again, once we see the specific patterns in the brain assessment, we are able to correct the dysregulation via enhancement sessions so that these responses are normalised.

We have seen cases of depression increasing especially after the Covid, be it from the stock market or in general. Does it also help in combating depression?
The Covid-19 virus impacts the brain leading to a loss of grey matter thickness in the orbitofrontal cortex, decrease in brain volume & decline in the ability to perform complex tasks.

Unsurprisingly, in addition to depression, we’re seeing issues like brain fog, fatigue, anxiety, sleep, memory & lower executive functions.

At NeuroLeap, we have been successfully helping people with all these issues pre- & post-Covid, including helping clients taper their antidepressants, and anxiety pills & get off them to lead normal and healthy lives.
