A new preview of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer will debut at IMAX screenings of Avatar 2.

According to an announcement on Twitter, the upcoming biopic will be getting a new preview on Thursday, appearing in front of Avatar: The Way of Water.

Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer – the scientist often credited as the “father of the atomic bomb”. The upcoming movie focuses on his work on The Manhattan Project, America’s top-secret nuclear weapons project during World War II.

The film’s recent trailer gave us a rather heavy glimpse of what to expect, with Murphy cutting a fine figure against the backdrop of nuclear Armageddon.

The all-star ensemble cast is already packed full of big names, including Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and many more. David Dastmalchian also recently joined the cast in an unknown role, with Drake and Josh star Josh Peck joining as the real-life scientist, Kenneth Bainbridge.

Oppenheimer isn’t the only blockbuster getting a new preview with IMAX this week, as Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One also debuts new footage.

“Starting Thursday, December 15, head to your IMAX theatre to get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at #MissionImpossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” said an announcement on Twitter. “Then see the movie in theatres July 2023.”

Meanwhile, Nolan has been blowing away fans with the news that he recreated the first atomic detonation without using CGI. “I think recreating the Trinity test without the use of computer graphics was a huge challenge to take on,” he said.

“It’s one of the most challenging projects I’ve ever taken on in terms of the scale of it, and in terms of encountering the breadth of Oppenheimer’s story,” he added. “There were big, logistical challenges, big practical challenges. But I had an extraordinary crew, and they really stepped up.”
