New Tales From The Borderlands Trailer Showcases 18 Minutes Of Gameplay

Gearbox Entertainment has concluded its main theater show at PAX West 2022 with a new gameplay trailer that gave fans a closer look at the new characters in action in the upcoming New Tales From The Borderlands. The game is releasing on October 21st on PC, as well as on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

As per usual, Borderlands keeps its quirky beats and nonsensical dialogue intact as the trademarks of the series. Players will get to follow the story of the three new characters Anu, Octavio, and Fran, and decide their fate step by step as they endeavor to change the world by fighting capitalistic weapon manufacturers and alien monstrosities in a single day’s work. Each of these characters has a different vision regarding how to achieve this grand goal, and the difference between them will involve many minute-to-minute decisions wherever you go.

Telltale Games are known for their flexibility in integrating these narrative choices, and New Tales From The Borderlands is no different. Players can watch the same trailer on the official Gearbox Youtube channel, and the other version of this trailer on the Pax West Showcase, to see the same gameplay segment but with different decisions and scenarios. In addition to the main dialogue options, there are also QTE timed events, and optional mini-games that are infused with the silliness the franchise is known for, like fighting soldiers with mini collectible figures.

Along with the recent New Tales From The Borderlands trailer, Gearbox has also released an official character trailer that sheds light on the three main characters and the drastic difference in their motivations. Fran wants to be rich as soon as possible, and Octavio wants to get out of the nobody zone, while Anu wants to use her scientific endeavor to create an idealistic world. Along the way, they will be confronting many threats and meeting with new and returning characters who will have unique interactions with their team in many different ways.

According to the studio, New Tales From The Borderlands is not a sequel to the original Tales from the Borderlands, but more of a spiritual successor. It has brand new characters and a new cast, but the studio took care to adopt a familiar story structure and gameplay. There will be callbacks to characters from previous games, including Borderlands 3, but it is in the end a standalone product made for both new and older fans. All game episodes will be available from day one on launch, making it one of the most accessible Telltale games to date.
