Newcastle Knights sign Adam Elliott and Jack Hetherington for 2023 season

The embattled Newcastle Knights have bolstered their forward pack for 2023, adding Canberra’s Adam Elliott and Canterbury’s Jack Hetherington to their roster.

Both have signed a three-year deal, with Elliott joining his partner Millie Boyle at the club, who made the switch from the Broncos in May.

Elliott’s career was on the ropes after being sacked by the Bulldogs in 2021, before he was handed a lifeline in the nation’s capital.

Hetherington has not played since round three, when he was ruled out for the season after he suffered an anterior shoulder dislocation.

“Both players will be a welcome addition to our club next season,” Newcastle football manager Danny Buderus said.

The pair will join a solid forward pack that boasts both Daniel and Jacob Saifiti, as well as David Klemmer, but lost Mitch Barnett to the Warriors mid-season.

“They bring versality, leg speed and strong physical presence to our pack, which are key attributes and skillsets for the modern game,” Buderus said.

“They share a hard-working attitude and a will to win, they both compete on every moment and that’s a great fit for the Newcastle Knights.”

It’s been a tough season so far for the Knights so this positive news will be welcomed.

The club sits on just four wins out of 12 games, and coach Adam O’Brien was forced to publicly deny that his future was up in the air at a press conference earlier this week.
