Many people may assume a longer break before playing in a grand slam tennis final would be an advantage.

But Australian tennis great Todd Woodbridge explains why it could actually work against Nick Kyrgios in tonight’s Wimbledon decider.

Kyrgios will take on Serbian champion Novak Djokovic to decide who will walk away from the All England Club with the men’s trophy.

The Aussie will have had a four-day break leading into the final, after Rafael Nadal withdrew from their semi-final due to injury.

Djokovic, on the other hand, played a four-setter against Cameron Norrie two days prior to walking onto centre court for tonight’s match.

The extra break for Kyrgios can have positive and negative impacts, Woodbridge told Nine’s Sports Sunday.

“That will be one of the hard things going into the final, that resumption of the energy that’s required,” Woodbridge said.

“The flow that you get on the day-on day-off is really important in these tournaments.

“But it’s also given him the chance to get the shoulder 100 per cent right, that was an issue in the middle of the tournament.

“But I don’t think, really, it will matter too much, because there’s going to be so much adrenalin, so much nervous energy, and let’s hope he hasn’t expended too much of that in the wait.”
