If you’re looking for an alternative to the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch, then there may be two new gaming handhelds coming your way. First up is the ASUS ROG Ally, which is said to bring “true PC performance to your life on the go”. Despite speculation that it was an April Fool’s joke, ASUS has confirmed that the device is real, and will be among the more powerful handheld gaming devices ever made.

Indeed, as you can see from the video below, the ROG Ally is a Windows handheld featuring a custom AMD Ryzen APU.

The display is said to provide a smooth gaming experience in full HD, while the dual fan design will keep it cool.

According to ASUS, it’s capable of playing “all your game libraries”, and can even connect to TVs via the ROG XG Mobile eGPU.

You can also add games and assign button configurations using the ASUS ROG Armoury Crate app.

There’s currently no word on a release date, although fans can sign up for updates by following ASUS ROG on Twitter.

The video ends with a look at compatible games, which includes Dying Light 2, High on Life, Ghostrunner, and Steel Rising.

Less concrete are the rumours that Sony is getting ready to release a new handheld device, although don’t expect a Vita 2.

According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, Sony is experimenting with a new cloud handheld.

This would presumably link to Sony’s PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium service, which allows subscribers to access hundreds of games from Sony’s entire back catalogue.

“I am traveling to Super Nintendo World, but I see the reports about a potential Vita 2, and I would definitely scope down those expectations,” Grubb tweets. “I’ve only ever heard about a cloud-streaming handheld.”
