No Way Home Becomes the Eighth-Highest Grossing Movie of All Time

The pandemic may be raging on with the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. However, there’s no stopping Peter Parker as the iconic comic book character’s latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continues to break records.

Even as the pandemic is forcing movie theater shutdowns around the world, Spider-Man: No Way Home is still breaking box office records both in the US and around the world.

Earlier this week, the movie featuring Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Zendaya as MJ crossed the $1.5 billion mark worldwide with the current figure standing at $1.53 billion.

This places Spider-Man: No Way Home as the eight-highest grossing movie of all time, displacing the first Avengers movie which released back in 2012.

Other than the original Avengers movie, it has also surpassed figures posted by movies like Frozen II, Fast & Furious 7, Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s also quite close to overtaking the fifth and sixth-highest grossing movies of all time in Jurassic World and The Lion King, respectively.

The performance of Spider-Man: No Way Home in the box office is one for the ages, as it is the only movie that has crossed the $1 billion figure during the pandemic. The second highest grossing movie of the year has been Daniel Craig’s last movie as James Bond in No Time to Die, which earned over $700 million.

The success of Spider-Man: No Way Home lies a lot in the inclusion of some of the most iconic villains from Spidey’s Rogues Gallery. This includes the addition of former big bads like Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx’s Electro.

Additionally, Jon Watts has provided a gut-wrenching finale to the high school trilogy of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the MCU, and fans will shed some tears for many of its brilliant emotional beats.

While the story has a lot of characters and some amazing actors to play them, it’s Tom Holland who steals the show as Peter Parker, along with Zendaya who also plays a vital cog in No Way Home’s storyline as MJ.

In the end, it hasn’t even been a month since the movie’s release, so there’s a huge chance that Spider-Man: No Way’s Home’s record-breaking run isn’t over yet, and only time will tell where it will end up when everything is said and done.
