NEW DELHI: OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei started his new consumer technology startup called Nothing last year. The company also launched its first product — the Nothing ear (1) TWS in August last year.
In March this year, the company confirmed that it will launch its first smartphone, dubbed as Nothing phone (1), later this year. Now a new report has surfaced online revealing the design and some specifications of the upcoming smartphone.
Carl Pei and Nothing’s chief designer, Tom Howard revealed some information about the design of the upcoming Nothing phone (1) to Wallpaper.com. As reported by Wallpaper.com, the Nothing phone (1) will sport a translucent design. This means that the smartphone will follow the same design philosophy as the Nothing Ear 1 true wireless earbuds. Howard mentioned that it was quite difficult to design a transparent smartphone. “There are over 400 components in a smartphone, assembled in layers. We wanted to celebrate the “good ones”, the things we thought were really interesting to emphasize,” said Howard.
Howard describes the complete process as a jigsaw puzzle as the company wants to showcase all the parts of the smartphone. The design of the smartphone is based on a map of the New York subway made by Massimo Vignelli and Bob Noord in 1972. Pie mentions that the design of the Nothing smartphone is inspired by the Nothing ear (1) and the company also believes in consistent design across its products.
Another online report by German publication All Round PC reveals that the company is planning to launch the Nothing phone (1) on July 21. The smartphone is expected to be priced under 500 euros (Rs 41,400).
Nothing Phone 1 expected specifications
The Nothing Phone 1 i is said to run Android 12 operating system topped with the company’s own Nothing OS. The smartphone is tipped to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 788G chipset coupled with 8GB of RAM.
The Nothing Phone 1 is expected to feature a 6.43-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate. According to the leaked user manual, the smartphone may sport a triple rear camera with a 50MP main camera, 8MP secondary camera and 2MP tertiary camera. The device is rumoured to be backed by a 32MP selfie shooter.
The Nothing Phone 1 is said to pack 128GB of internal storage and house a 4500mAh battery with wireless charging support.
