The government plans to launch a super app for farmers, consolidating multiple digital entities and existing mobile applications meant for them, said an official at the ministry of agriculture and farmers’ welfare.

The consolidation will help farmers in accessing information such as latest research and development, weather and market updates, services available, government schemes and advisories for different agro-climatic zones under one umbrella.

The ministry is looking at combining apps like Kisan Suvidha, Pusa Krishi, MKisan, Shetkari Masik Android App, Farm-o-pedia, Crop Insurance Android App, AgriMarket, Iffco Kisan and ICAR’s Krishi Gyan among others.

“The compilation of different apps under a super app at one place will help the farmers in choosing from a bouquet of services as per their requirements,” said the official, who did not want to be named. “The focus will be to aggregate these apps to further ease the process of searching a relevant app.”

Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar recently met senior officials of the ministry to review the progress on the development of the super app. It could be launched in the next few weeks, the official added.

The super app will also be used to educate farmers on crop production and technologies, and post-harvest issues including marketing. It will help in connecting farmers directly to the scientific community, the official said.

The existing apps which will be integrated with the super app have been developed by several government bodies like ICAR institutions, state agricultural universities, krishi vigyan kendras and other departments.
