Sydney Roosters star Angus Crichton may return to the NRL “sooner than expected”, according to Sydney Morning Herald rugby league reporter Michael Chammas.

Crichton was diagnosed with bipolar disorder last month and announced an indefinite break from league last month.

But speaking on Nine’s NRL coverage on Sunday, Chammas confirmed the second-rower could be back for the Tricolours in a matter of weeks.

“Things are looking good,” he said.

“Angus and his manager met with (Roosters chairman) Nick Politis last week and I spoke to the Roosters today and in the next 24 to 48 hours, Angus Crichton will sit down with Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson to map out a plan about him returning to that Roosters set-up.”

Chammas said he expected Crichton to train on his own for several weeks before returning to training with his teammates.

“We all thought that perhaps we wouldn’t see Angus Crichton return to rugby league in 2023 but the signs are looking good,” Chammas said.

“Potentially, we may see him return sooner than expected.”

Crichton had been dealing with the disorder for some time and the NSW Origin and Kangaroos representative saw several specialists before being diagnosed.
