NRL Tigers vs Eels | ‘Pedantic’ bunker calls rob Eels against Tigers

0

Contentious decisions have seen the Parramatta Eels robbed of two early tries against the Tigers.

The Eels looked to have scored with their first use of the ball when Shaun Lane took a great catch and crossed in just the second minute.

Referee Chris Butler awarded the try, before the Bunker weighed in nearly a minute later and asked for a second look.

When slowed down, the ball seemed to take a bobble off Daine Laurie.

The decision was overturned, much to the surprise of Lane.

The second decision was just minutes later, when Penisini crossed but was called back for a forward pass.

Having seen replays, Sharks premiership coach Shane Flanagan for Fox Sports said he was “still yet to see a forward pass”.

Social media reaction was swift – Phil Gould labelled the decision “pedantic” while former Eel Eric Grothe Jr said pinballing so often seen off high kicks shouldn’t matter.

The Tigers scored the next two tries to lead the Eels 12-0 midway through the first half, before tries to Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Maika Sivo and Reed Mahoney in the space of 10 minutes saw the Eels hit the sheds 16-12 leaders.

At half time Michael Ennis said referees are “just looking for reasons to take tries off people”.

“You can argue both ways … we’re slow it down too much and looking for anything that went wrong.”
