Samsung is currently hosting the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2022 and the South Korean technology giant has introduced the new One UI 5.0 that will allow users to customise their phones. The company says that apart from the device’s look and feel, the update will also enhance productivity and provide “amazing experiences” across devices and platforms. Samsung One UI 5.0 is based on Android 13.

At SDC, Samsung says that the One UI 5.0 update will start rolling out publicly for Galaxy S22 smartphones later this month. This means that Galaxy S22 owners will be getting the update in the next 15-17 days as we are already halfway through the month.

One UI 5.0 features
Samsung says that the Android 13-based One UI 5 brings more personalised experiences with custom-built Modes and Routines. There is a new Dynamic Lock screen that displays multiple visuals on your phone, your Galaxy Watch and other One UI 5 devices.
Samsung will also roll out the new Bixby Text Call feature and Bixby Voice that will answer calls on users’ behalf and share typed messages with the caller, speaking aloud as if you had answered. This feature is pretty similar to the Call Screen which Google announced at I/O 2021. Call Screen is currently available in 10 countries and Samsung has not announced the markets where this feature will be available.
One UI 5 update also introduces new daily health solutions to help track health and wellness. “This includes the Samsung Privileged Health SDK, which enables developers to build apps that leverage the BioActive Sensor on the Galaxy Watch,” Samsung says.
Josh Ross, content strategist from Samsung’s Core UX Group of MX Business, touched upon One UI 5.0 update for Samsung’s foldable phones. He says that people can expect further refinement and improvement. “We look at everything from icons and animations to how you organise and find things and so much more. We’re learning more and more from our users about how the foldable experience changes things, so keep looking for exciting developments in the area of unique features for the Galaxy Flip and Galaxy Fold,” Ross added.
