Overwatch 2 Beta is live now and the players can check out the sequel to their beloved game through the invite system or receive Beta Keys through Twitch drops. The beta testing for Overwatch 2 opened on April 26, 2022 and the interested players could watch streams from the official list of streamers and receive a Beta Key through Twitch drops.
The catch was that the players would need to watch one or several streams from the official list of streamers for a period of 4 hours and then expect a drop. Time would accrue even if the player kept changing streams from one official streamer to another. The developers did not know that this process would help them reach a record high for viewership on Twitch.
On the day of the release Overwatch 2 streams had already crossed the peak that Overwatch 1 made on their release with over 469,000 viewers. The Twitch Drops were scheduled to begin a day later, but the game was already garnering a huge viewership. When the Twitch Drops process begun a day later, this number more than doubled and Overwatch 2 reached a record high of 1.4 million concurrent viewers.
Players that tuned-in and watched the streams for 4 continuous hours between 1 p.m. ET to 6 p.m. ET on April 27, 2022 were able to get hands on the Beta keys for Overwatch 2 through Twitch drops. At the moment the beta version of Overwatch 2 consists only of a PVP mode and only works for PC, it will be adding new things as time progresses.
Players that could not get a Beta key, should not be disappointed as Blizzard has stated that more keys will be dropped when the Overwatch League begins on May 5, 2022. Even the website will have more spots to send invites to players that wish to try out the Overwatch 2 Beta.
