Overwatch 2 Developers Strengthen Action Against Cheaters as a Russian Ban Looms Over the Title Alongside Apex Legends
Cheaters have always been a part and parcel of multiplayer gaming, and they have always been quite detrimental to the experience of an average player.
The issues of hacking have plagued several franchises, especially shooters like Call of Duty: Warzone. The most recent title to fall prey to these cheaters is Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch 2, which arrived last month.
For the most part, the developers have been banning players for using cheat software. However, Blizzard seems to be stepping up its game to stop hackers by striking at the root.
According to a VG247 report, the developers recently threatened legal action against “assistance” or cheating software Rijin, which has since been forced to close shop.
At the moment, it’s unclear if Blizzard plan on threatening other cheaters with litigation. However, it seems like their plan is working, so it shouldn’t be a surprise if this becomes the norm soon.
However, the title’s fortunes seem to be at risk in Russia, with the country’s government potentially banning any form of media featuring LGBT propaganda.
In a Gazeta.ru report, Yana Lantratova, Russia’s first deputy chairman of State Duma Committee on Education, has revealed several games featuring LGBTQ+ content, which “present an unconventional relationship as something attractive” to children who play them.
