Parramatta Eels vs Canterbury Bulldogs; Cameron Smith baffled by Storm inaction over Cameron Munster extension

Melbourne Storm legend Cameron Smith has urged his former club to re-sign Cameron Munster and “can’t believe” they haven’t secured his services for 2024 already.

It’s understood the Brisbane Broncos and Dolphins are looking to offer big money deals to lure the five eighth to Queensland to become the highest paid player in the game at around $1.5 million per season.

Munster, who is contracted with the Storm until the end of the 2023 season, is off contract the year after.

The Dolphins are reportedly expected to table a four-year offer worth a staggering $5.2 million which dwarfs the Storm’s current offer of a three-year deal worth $800,000 a season.

“There’s huge reports saying he’s done, that he’s a done deal,” Smith told SEN.

“It’s surprising, I hope he stays, I can’t believe that they wouldn’t just throw everything at him to keep him.

“Just look at his form over the last couple of months, you can’t tell me he’s not the most important player there.”

Munster’s manager Braith Anasta told Fox Sports his dealings with the Storm have been fruitful.

“Cameron is still negotiating with the Melbourne Storm at the moment,” Anasta said on Wednesday.

“They have been unbelievable throughout the process. Matt Tripp is doing everything in his power to keep Cameron at the club.

“But as it stands right now it looks most likely at this point that we will go to market in November, but things could change between now and then. That’s where it is at right now.”
