Paul Cattermole feared S Club 7 fans would brand him ‘crazy’ over tarot card career | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Paul Cattermole declared himself psychically gifted in his final years, and even offered tarot card readings from his Dorset home.

However, after revealing he’d been “seeing things” ever since his early 20s, he also feared the unconventional career move would cause S Club 7 fans to brand him crazy.

The former pop star even claimed he had the ability to contact loved ones from beyond the grave, and charged almost £40 for a 20-minute psychic reading.

Paul had battled financial troubles after leaving S Club 7, and even sold his BRIT Award to make ends meet, but after making himself available for a series of “odd jobs”, he decided a career as a psychic was the pathway for him.

Talking on the Andy Jaye Podcast of his gift, he explained: “I got it quite late in life. I got it in my early 20s, which having discussed it with lots of psychics, that’s actually quite late to get it.”

He later took a course in tarot card reading, and was formally declared a “psychic detective” by his tutor, after which he offered sessions both in person and via TikTok.

He revealed another of his unconventional skills had been “psychometry” which is the ability to hold objects or photos and get an insight into their past history without any conscious knowledge.

Paul struggled financially after being declared bankrupt in 2014 and even embarked on a failed attempt to sell his BRIT Award for Best British Breakthrough Act back in 2018, insisting: “There are bills to pay.”

The auction resulted in a bidder pledging more than £66,000 on eBay but failing to pay up, and while he successfully sold his 2002 Best Single BRIT for S Club 7’s Don’t Stop Movin’, it gained him just £3,000.

Despite his financial woes, and the fact S Club 7 sold over 10 million records in their heyday, Paul was adamant he would have given up fame any day for “one true love,” which he revealed in a tearful interview for Channel 4 matchmaking show First Dates Hotel.

The band announced the planned S Club reunion tour will still go ahead in October in spite of Paul’s tragic death on Thursday, which has left them “devastated”.
