Microsoft is working on a new tool called ‘Performance Detector’ for Edge web browser, according to Windows Latest report. As per the report, the new tool will allow users to find and debug performance issues with the web browser to boost the overall performance.
The report suggests that the tool is expected to detect performance issues and also recommend actions that users can take or follow to solve them. The new tool is first expected to arrive on Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems.
The Performance Detector, according to the report, utilises the built-in Sleeping tabs to detect and address performance issues.
As per the report, the new tool is expected to join the Edge’s built-in efficiency mode that the company is planning to add soon to the web browser. The Efficiency mode will optimise the browser’s performance and overall responsiveness by utilising system resources better.
How does the Microsoft Edge’s Performance Detector feature works
As mentioned, the Performance Detector feature detects performance related issues with the browser-based on open tabs, extensions, etc.
As per the Settings page of Microsoft Edge, “When this is on, the browser detects tab performance issues and recommends an action to fix.”
Microsoft hasn’t exactly explained how this feature works. What we are assuming is that the tool will notify users about a particular tab consuming more resources than usual or other tabs.
The tool is also expected to monitor other features of the browser along with extensions and notify users if it detects any issue with them and also suggests users some actions that can be taken to resolve the issues.
